National Indigenous People’s Day

Last week, for National Indigenous People's Day, WIS staff and volunteers were delighted to support our friends at the Brandon Friendship Centre, BUAPC, Manitoba Metis Federation, and more! We helped serve food and drinks, celebrating the rich cultures and contributions of Indigenous Peoples. It was a day filled with joy, unity, and community spirit! Thank you to everyone who came together to make this day special. Let’s continue to honor and celebrate Indigenous cultures every day.

World Refugee Day: A Day of Reflection and Understanding

We were honored to have members of the community join us again this year for World Refugee Day! The event started with a short presentation, followed by a powerful Forced Migration Simulation. Participants experienced the many challenges and hardships that refugees face daily. The day concluded with an engaging panel discussion that provided enlightening conversations and deeper understanding of the refugee experience. Thank you to Brandon University Student's Union & Brandon Local Immigration Partnership A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated and helped us shine a light on the plight of refugees. WIS Attends Brandon Chamber of Commerce’s State of the Chamber Luncheon

Westman Immigrant Services recently attended the State of the Chamber, hosted by Brandon Chamber of Commerce. This event marked the final installment in the Luncheon events series for the season, which will resume next fall. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with community leaders and celebrate the accomplishments of the Chamber. WIS welcomes Minister Jon Reyes and MLA Len Isleifson

On Thursday, March 31, 2022, WIS Brandon had the Provincial Minister of Advanced Education, Skills and Immigration, the Honourable Jon Reyes, and local Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Brandon East, Len Isleifson, visit the office. We were grateful to have the opportunity to have the Minister and MLA both come to the office. During the visit discussed opportunities for newcomers in the Brandon and Westman region.
